Surface EMG suffices to classify the motion of each finger independently

چکیده
We introduce a learning method which can detect opening (extension) and closing (flexion) actions of all human fingers, as well as sideways movements (abduction/adduction) using lower arm surface EMG only. The method is shown to be used independently of the position of the arm. The method is ideally suited for the control of active prosthesis with a high number of active degrees of freedom. The method is successfully demonstrated on a robotic four-finger hand, and can be used to grasp objects.

Finger Motion Classification by Forearm Skin Surface Vibration Signals
The development of prosthetic hand systems with both decoration and motion functionality for hand amputees has attracted wide research interests. Motion-related myoelectric potentials measured from the surface of upper part of forearms were mostly employed to construct the interface between amputees and prosthesis. However, finger motions, which play a major role in dexterous hand activities, co...

متن کاملFinger Motion Decoding Using EMG Signals Corresponding Various Arm Postures
We provide a novel method to infer finger flexing motions using a four-channel surface electromyogram (EMG). Surface EMG signals can be recorded from the human body non-invasively and easily. Surface EMG signals in this study were obtained from four channel electrodes placed around the forearm. The motions consist of the flexion of five single fingers (thumb, index finger, middle finger, ring f...
متن کاملMuscular production of individuated finger movements: the roles of extrinsic finger muscles.
Individuated finger movements--those in which one or more fingers are moved relatively independently of the movement or posture of other body parts--are produced in part by the action of the extrinsic finger muscles. Flexion/extension movements of the fingers are particularly dependent on these extrinsic muscles, most of which are multitendoned. How can contraction of multitendoned muscles move...
متن کاملReal-time Classification of Finger Movements using Two-channel Surface Electromyography
The use of a small number of Electromyography (EMG) channels for classifying the finger movement is a challenging task. This paper proposes the recognition system for decoding the individual and combined finger movements using two channels surface EMG. The proposed system utilizes Spectral Regression Discriminant Analysis (SRDA) for dimensionality reduction, Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) for c...
